WORK PACKAGE 6 – Analysis of historical public opinion data

WP 6 description:

Work Package 6 acts on RO4. It undertakes a collection and secondary analysis of historical opinion survey data from the 1990-2020 period for two reasons. First, it provides input to the book project of WP1 and helps generating hypotheses for the entire project about why certain issue domains are, ceteris paribus, more likely than others to generate (a) policy disagreements between the parties; (b) extensive, vivid and persistent news media coverage; and (c) a stronger response from citizens in terms of issue attention and issue voting. Second, the WP produces its own deliverables, which are (1) depositing in publicly accessible archives and with appropriate documentation important opinion surveys that are the primary historical documents on the development of issue voting in postcommunist Romania, and (2) research papers mapping and explaining in a cross-national comparative and longitudinal framework what policy dimensions generated and to what extent a degree a congruence between the views of the parties and their supporters, and to what extent such congruence occurred on issues that actually divide parties.
